DAYA Newsletter for Oct. 2011

Dear Sponsors, Supporters and Friends of DAYA

October is the month of the biggest Hindu festival, which is called Dusshera. The Goddess Durga (Mother of the Universe) is worshiped during this festival. All the educational Institutions were closed for two weeks. Our children of DAYA Children's Home enjoyed the holidays in a different way, however. All of them worked to make our campus clean. They also engaged themselves in gardening. They sowed different types of vegetable seeds such as spinach, carrots and cauliflower and planted several kinds of flowers. The children also made a fence around the garden.

During the holiday the youngsters watched some children’s movies. One of them was “Dogs and Cats” and the other was “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”. Everyone enjoyed them very much.

After school reopened the children participated in several different activities that were organized in school. They took part in things like painting, dance, music and drawing. Our children did very well. In music Tiki took first prize and Manisha took second  while Sujata won first prize in the drawing competition. All the youngsters got a prize of some kind for taking part in the function.

During the last week of October pretest exams were held and our children did well. We have engaged a lady tutor now to teach them English and math so that they will do well in the annual examinations.

Every weekend all the small children go to the nearby park to play and jump and expend their energies. They especially enjoy the slides. Some pictures taken at the park and some at the orphanage are included here. We hope you like them.

That is our news for now.

Love to you all from the children and staff of DAYA Children’s Home.
